Laser Hair Removal: How Does It Work?

What is laser hair removal?

Laser hair removal is a popular cosmetic procedure that offers a long-lasting solution to unwanted hair. Using concentrated beams of light, the procedure targets hair follicles, damaging them to inhibit future hair growth. Unlike traditional methods like shaving or waxing, laser hair removal provides lasting results, reducing the need for frequent maintenance. The process is safe and effective for most skin types and can be performed on various body areas, including the face, legs, arms, and bikini line.

How does it work?

During laser hair removal, a technician uses a laser or IPL handpiece to deliver pulses of laser light to the treatment area. The pigment (melanin) in the hair follicles absorbs the light energy, which converts to heat, damaging the follicle and inhibiting future hair growth. Since hair grows in cycles, multiple treatment sessions are required to target hairs in different growth phases effectively.

Who is an ideal candidate for laser hair removal?

  1. Light Skin, Dark Hair: As lasers target the pigment (melanin) in hair, individuals with darker hair and lighter skin are ideal. This contrast allows the laser to focus on the hair follicle without damaging the surrounding skin. However, our Diode laser is a safe and effective solution for all skin types ( I-VI).
  2. Hair Type: Laser hair removal works best on thicker hair because it absorbs more of the laser’s energy. Fine or light-coloured hair may or may not respond to the laser energy.

Diode laser for dark skin tones

Diode laser hair removal is an option for individuals with dark skin tones. This technology minimizes the risk of adverse effects such as burns or hyperpigmentation. Diode lasers can effectively reduce unwanted hair growth without damaging surrounding areas.
