Dedicated to Pilar: The owner of a Mexican bathhouse.
Pilar lived in a century-old Mexican house built by her great-grandfather and had a traditional desert bath in her yard, a place that was almost sacred to her family. This bath looked like a sand womb - a round tent made of stone with a small window for light right in the center, from above. Whenever Pilar's family came to visit, the bathhouse was an obligatory ritual. It was melted with dry firewood burnt under the desert sun, people would go inside, add dried marigolds, lemon zest, jasmine to the coals, and then sing traditional songs together while playing guitar inside.
The air was heated either by the firewood or by the music, which swirled around the bath. And when they went outside and cooled down in the cold desert night air, the sky was crystal and covered with stars - as only people with clear minds and feelings can see them.
